Bestway and GroceryAid – a winning combination

Bestway Foundation yesterday (20th October) handed over a generous cheque to the grocery industry’s charity GroceryAid – the main beneficiary of the Bestway Group’s Royal Ascot Charity Race Day 2015.

The donation took place at Bestway’s HQ in Park Royal with group chief executive Zameer Choudrey and Wholesale managing director Younus Sheikh presenting GroceryAid’s Director General Gillian Barker with a cheque for £100,000.

“At Bestway Foundation we are continually giving back to our customers. This year alone we increased customers’ margins by reducing prices on core lines, abolishing transaction charges online and in–depot and giving over £2m in rebates to customers” says Mr Choudrey.

Mr Choudrey, who is also a trustee of GroceryAid, continues, “However we are also mindful of - and can never forget - those retailers, suppliers and industry colleagues who may no longer be in the industry but have fallen on hard times or are experiencing emotionally difficult times in their lives. We must remember those who have made the grocery industry in general, and Bestway in particular, what we are today. And that is why, on behalf of all at Bestway Wholesale, I am delighted to make this contribution to GroceryAid to help it continue its fantastic work through financial assistance and emotional support.”

GroceryAid Director General Gillian Barker was delighted to accept the donation, “I would like to thank Zameer and Bestway Foundation for this incredible sum. The average cost of caring for a beneficiary is £1,500 so this gift will make such a difference to so many lives. We want to reach out to many more current and former industry colleagues who are suffering financially, physically and mentally and provide them the necessary assistance and advice to enable them to enjoy a fuller, richer life.”

If anyone is in need of assistance they can call GroceryAid’s Helpline on freephone 08088 021122 which offers round the clock support and guidance to all within the industry.
