Bestway gets to grips with reducing its carbon use

Bestway, the largest independent wholesale group in the UK has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of its group efforts in reducing its carbon emissions by 1% following measurements made over the last three years.

This means that the company joins a 450 plus elite group of companies in the UK who have made real impact on getting to grips with helping to make a difference to the environment.

Zahir Fazaldin, who is responsible for managing this project at Bestway said, "Naturally the Bestway group is delighted with this award; it comes after a great deal of hard work and cost in upgrading our refrigeration systems, lighting upgrades and a considerable change to our vehicle purchasing policy. We have encouraged our staff, across the group, to reduce their consumption of energy by monitoring usage of lights, heating systems and anything electrical together with the usage of vehicles."

The recently opened Bestway branch at Aintree, near Liverpool is a state of the art building that is making great use of a form of Air Source Heat Pumps, which provide renewably sourced heating with minimal consumption in the branch. Elsewhere in the group typical examples of savings that have been made are 50% at Batleys, Coventry and 40% at Leeds depots, and 30% at Bestway in Birmingham, in addition to savings across the group as a whole.
