For over 150 years McDougalls has inspired caterers and we pride ourselves on offering practical advice and delicious recipes. Of course you could simplify our method, but to get the very best results, here are our make up instructions.
1. Place the weighed out McDougalls Shortcrust Pastry Mix into a mixing bowl. Select the beater attachment.
2. Blend on Slow speed, slowly adding the water until a dough is formed. Do not over mix. Leave to rest for 10 minutes.
3. Roll out pastry to 3mm (1/8'') thickness and use as required. Bake at 190ºC/375ºF/Gas Mark 5 for 20-30 minutes. For fan-assisted ovens bake at 170ºC/325ºF/Gas Mark 4.
Useful hints and tips...
For a sweet pastry, add 50g caster sugar to each 1kg pastry mix.
To make the pastry easier to handle, place in a covered bowl and chill for 15 minutes.
Always allow the pastry to rest for a short time, before placing in the oven to cook.
McDougalls Shortcrust Pastry is freeze thaw stable.
If the pastry is a little dry during mixing, add a little more water.
For best results once opened, keep bag tightly closed and use within 2 months.
